Would You Want To Work For You? 🤔
Would you want to work for you? 🤔
Five o'clock yesterday and the final session of the day - my client made a comment, which really made me sit up in my seat and take notice.
He said “I'm realising that we’re finally building a business that I would actually want to work for.”
For context - these guys already had a pretty good culture before we started working together. They're two business owners who are really open, growth-oriented, and are willing to have hard conversations with themselves and their team.
Over the last 9 months, we’ve been focused on growing the people side of their business. We've clarified the vision and the values for the business, and invested deeply in team development.
They’ve embedded weekly 1-on-1 sessions with team members - and worked hard on lifting their coaching skills as leaders.
They're playing the long game, but it's starting to pay off.
Not just in the financial performance of the business (where they're on track to have their best year yet) but also in the environment - the culture on a day-to-day basis. It's a more enjoyable place to work and they're spending less time within the business.
I wonder, what it is that you're building?
And I wonder, would you want to work for you?
… If not, what needs to change?
