Have you flicked the switch?
Have YOU FLICKED THE SWITCH?
I just wrapped up a session with a client, and I'm going to share with you a couple of insights that I think will be helpful for you in your business. It's been a couple of weeks since I've seen this client, and it turns out that he's off track from achieving his goals. Maybe you can relate?
So we're digging into that and I recap on his goals, the things that he set out at the start of the year. I asked him, Is that still what you want to achieve? And he goes, yeah, yep. That's what I want to achieve. They're still motivating for you? Yep. They're still motivating for me.
We recapped the plan. Is that still that plan still relevant, are the tactics and strategies still appropriate? Yeah, yep, the plans still good. Cool, so you know where you want to go and it's motivating to you. You know the plan to get there.
What's the problem? And we dig into that and I said to him, it sounds to me like you haven't yet made that commitment you haven't flicked the switch and gone all in on this goal being achieved.
The thing is when we set a goal it's really not about the goal itself. It's not about the dollars and cents. It's about becoming the person that we need to be in order to achieve that goal. And so when it comes time to executing the task that we need to do, in order to achieve that goal, if we haven't flicked the switch, it's really challenging to actually get there.
The metaphor that I want you to think about is switches verses dials, so there's some things in life where we need a flick the switch, and there's other times where it's more of a dial. For example, working on your business you need to dial that up. You won't go just from 0 to 10 hours of working on your business overnight, just like that. Contrary to what you might think. We need to dial that up, slowly.
But then there's other things like my Jiu Jitsu coach, says you need to make a decision that you will get the submission, or that you will escape the submission. There's no seeing how it goes. It's either, I'm going to get this no matter what.
So when it comes to goal achievement if you haven't yet decided that you will become the person you need to be in order to achieve the thing or do the things you need to do to achieve the goal that you want to achieve. It's going to be hard going and there's going to be a lot of time where you're offtrack.
My question to you is, what do you want to achieve?
I'm guessing you're pretty clear on that, and pretty motivated. What do you need to do to achieve that goal? I'm guessing you're pretty clear on that.
But have you made the decision on being the person you need to be? That is the switch which will make the biggest difference on that journey.
