Can’t Find Good Staff?

Last week I had a conversation with someone 30-years into the game.

When the topic of staff came up, he got a bit hot under the collar. 😤

He said, “You just can’t find good people anymore”.

Now I’m a pretty empathetic guy, but the truth is…

If you regularly end up with shitty people on your team,

The problem isn’t them - it’s you. 😬

Specifically, your hiring process. Or lack of one.

I told him this (in kind, but direct words) - and while he might have been a little taken aback in the moment, he later thanked me for it. 🙈

He’s not alone here. Most owners are winging the hiring process:

❌ Writing boring ads that read like job descriptions

❌ Asking generic interview questions they got from Chat GPT

❌ Making hiring decisions based on ‘gut feel’ - and ignoring the data

Hiring will feel hard, until you take ownership of your part in the process.

It starts with shifting your mindset from “There aren’t any good people out there” to “There’s an abundance of good people in the marketplace… and it’s on me to attract, assess, and sign them.” 😉
