Why your Job Ads suck
zzzzzzzz
Most job ads read like job descriptions - and that’s exactly why they get ignored.
A two-minute scroll on SEEK (or any job board) brings up the same thing over and over: long lists of duties, overcooked requirements, and a whole lot of corporate waffle. 😅
It all sounds the same ... so the best people just keep scrolling.
So what do you do instead, to attract the people you want on your team?
Treat your job ad like a ✨billboard✨ for the role you’re trying to fill.
Your job isn’t to document every detail. It’s to make the right person stop and think, “that sounds like a job I’d actually want.”
A simple test I use with clients is this: after reading the ad, how clearly can an applicant imagine what a day in the life of this role would look, feel, and sound like?
If the answer is “not very”… it needs more work. 👀
A strong ad paints the day-to-day — the conversations, the wins, the tricky bits. It attracts people who are a great fit and helps filter out those who aren't.
You can still link to the full job description at the bottom – but – inspire first, inform second.
We’ve put together a simple Google Docs template to help you do this quickly. Have a play around and let me know what you think: Job Ad Template.
P.S. I’ll be unpacking our full recruitment process in a 90-minute workshop soon. If you want the details - reply with RECRUIT and I’ll be in touch.
