3 Tips for Building Faster Rapport
Here’s 3 tips to help build faster rapport with your prospects, customers and team.
1. Get out of your head and into theirs.
Before you focus on getting your point across, ask yourself: How do they prefer to communicate?
Do they prefer the big picture or the details? Do they want you to get straight to the point or build a bit of rapport first?
The better you become at spotting these preferences, the easier it is to adapt your communication. People feel understood, conversations flow more naturally, and rapport builds much faster.
If you only communicate the way you like to communicate, you'll constantly struggle with people who think differently.
2. Match their pace
Imagine you're jogging alongside the person you're talking to.
If you're speaking much faster than they are, it's like you've sprinted ahead and left them behind. Speak too slowly, and they'll lose interest waiting for you to catch up.
Aim to match their tempo. It feels natural, keeps them engaged, and makes conversations flow.
3. Identify their priority
Where’s their priority? People or Task?
Are they focused more on making connection with you or are they more interested in task at hand?
When you miss someone’s priority, they feel like you’re just not on the same page as them.
So if it seems they’re prioritising people, show interest in them personally, and if they’re more focused on the task, cut to the chase and get to the point.
