The Fear of Losing Ground

I’m back at work today after 5-weeks in Australia.

Honestly, business took a back seat to family life.

My business did not get "better".

I posted minimal social content, avoided reading business books, and created zero additional assets.

One part of me is wondering whether I've dented my chances of hitting my goals this year.

But another is thinking about my 80-year old self, and what he'd say.

Would he prescribe a daily instagram video? Or, throwing a fishing line off the pontoon with the kids every night as the sun's going down?

Here in lies one of the core dilemmas of a being a business owner.

The fear of ‘losing ground’.

You set your sights on big targets, under the assumption that life will be good when you reach them.

Every day becomes about progressing toward these milestones.

But you rarely ever feel like you're hitting them.

Even on your best days, there's always something else you could've got done.

Then there's, family, fitness, spirituality and all the rest of it!

Despite what the productivity experts will tell you, there simply aren't enough hours in the day to progress every area of life, equally.

What you have to decide, is how you want life to look, feel and sound within time you have available.

For me, that means working hard and working smart, but also giving myself permission to enjoy the journey.

Being OK to take time away from the business, to switch off, to be present and connect well with my wife and my kids.

And, accepting that sometimes progress in one area of life will likely be detrimental to another.

What about you, have you felt worried about 'losing ground'?
