I Took My Daughter On A Date

Yesterday afternoon I took my daughter on a date.

We went to see Raya and The Last Dragon, ate Wendy’s, and strolled around the central city. As we were walking back to the car, she looked up at me and said, “That was a special date, Dad. I love you.”

There’s something about that one-on-one time that makes it feel different from all the other time we spend together during the week.

At our core, we’re all simple beings. Once our basic needs are met—food, water, shelter—we search for relationships.

That’s why it surprises me when business leaders say they’re too busy to meet with their team members.

Gallup reports that the single most influential factor on employee engagement is a team’s manager—accounting for at least 70% of the variance.

So what are good managers doing that bad managers aren’t?

Is it really a surprise that it’s a once a week 1:1 meeting?

I wonder when you last had a one-on-one with each member of your team❓
