Trees Shouldn't Grow From Buildings

I’m no botanist, but I’m pretty sure trees are supposed to grow out of the ground, not the side of a brick building. 🌳

Funnily enough, this is a situation I see occurring in most businesses. Business owners are entrenched in areas they shouldn’t be, doing low skill, low enjoyment work they have no business doing.

Because they’re so distracted doing the day-to-day, no one is focused on the projects that actually make the business more efficient and effective. Every day, feels like Groundhog Day. And just like that tree, the longer they let it go on, the further entrenched they become.😰

One of the first things we work on with our 1-to-1 clients is carving out time to work ON (not IN) their business. Getting this time each week, quickly creates a sense of control but also improves profitability and the business owners own hourly rate. 👏

I know what you’re thinking... 🤔 “I’m too busy to do that!” I get it. So, start small...Here are 3-tips to get you started:

1. BOOK IT IN 📕

Review your diary and choose a 1-hour block that you can commit to every week – avoid periods of the day when you’re not at your best (Friday afternoon) or times where you know it will be difficult to get away.

2. WRITE A LIST ✏️

Write a list of 3 projects that would help your business run smoother, that doesn’t mean sending out all those quotes, or following up invoices. That means things like creating checklists, training staff, reviewing pricing etc. etc. Once you have your list pick 1 to prioritize.

3. MINIMISE DISTRACTIONS 🔕

Make sure that your environment is going to support your success. Get away from the office, inform your team that you’re unavailable, turn your phone off and disconnect from the internet.
